The Fujairah Hilton Hotel is also an excellent spot for seabird-watching and enjoying a cold beer at the same time.

With 66 species recorded, it can be quite good.

The last hotel before reaching the Oman border is the Kalba Breeze Motel.

It is old, probably quite cheap and ideally located close to Khor Kalba, almost within walking distance.

Khor Kalba, with the immediate Kalba Corniche and Khor Kalba Harbour has an impressive list of 196 species recorded.

A few km north of the (now to my mind way-overpriced) Sandy Beach is the Holiday Beach Motel. Not much more than half the price of Sandy Beach, clean & safe, the usual amenities, reasonable snorkelling - in calm conditions - immediately offshore (turtles pretty much guaranteed, on the basis of 3 visits), excellent snorkelling with a 10-minute boat ride to a nearby rock (better than Snoopy, on my only visit). Last time out, the gardens gave me blue rock-thrush, european nightjar and a hobby - Ok, not spectacular, but nice on a family weekend ...

We stayed at Breeze Motel several times last year. Pretty basic but the rooms have a fridge and the staff are friendly. Quiet and very cheap compared to the rest of the things on the East Coast. If you get the suite then you have your own courtyard with table and chairs. Good for kids. You can get decent food at the little place up the road. The Breeze itself has a restaurant across the road. It never seems to be really functioning but had dinner there and it was fine.

And best of all the birds are close. :)
