I have left the UAE and just wanted to send out a word of thanks to all those birders who helped me. My four weeks in the UAE was fantastic, with highlights including the poor kittiwake that we rescued from some hungry crows, the successful chuckor hunt, and the Spur-winged Plover in Al Ain.
I was very impressed with the birding community in UAE and with the generosity and skills of the people I met. I am indebted to Oscar Campbell, Dave Clarke, and Graeme Talbot for sharing their knowledge with me. I was especially touched by Simon Aspinall, whose encyclopaedic knowledge of the avifauna is only surpassed by his indomitable spirit.
Just for the record, I added 153 birds to my UAE list (now at 182), three to my Asia list (now 2089), and 17 to my "western Palearctic" list (now 495).
If there is anything that I can do for you all over here in Washington, I'd be pleased to help.
