View Full Version : 'Black' drongo sp Abu Dhabi
Directions: Come over Saddyat island bridge from Dubai and into one way system before the corniche. On the right hand side is a line of green warehouses that leads diagonally from the road. In front of these warehouses is a row of pruned date palms running parallel with the road and behind a fence. The drongo flew up into one of these trees at 0810 this morning and gave good views as I sat in traffic.

Its a great news. Thanks for posting it. Is it possible to pinpoint the location in a google map? regards, reza khan
Sorry, I don't know how to use google maps to post locations and I don't know Abu Dhabi so wouldn't want to place the location wrongly and waste peoples time. Rob Q Has gone to have a look and says there are access restrictions because the area is part of the port but the bird showed well enough this morning about 2m in from the fence.
Now for the ID of the bird.....did it appear all glossy black with a white spot between bill and eye?
Or matte black with no spot. Rob?

are you hinting it could be an ashy drongo, which is more probable considering its sojourn in dubai in the past few months? rgds,

please be Black!
please be Black!
Reza... the likelihood is that it was an ashy that's why I put 'black' in quotes to describe the colour not the species.
I'll try and have another look later, Rob couldn't re-find it.
Just to note that because of work I haven't managed to go back and look again but as soon as I get time I will.
