Zakher pools - Friday morning
a very agressive falcon was trying to dominate everything at the lake today -- first it fought with two marsh harriers, then it attacked the great white egret (going for it's head), went after some shore birds, then got the 5 greylag geese up in the air and made 3-4 unsuccessful attempts to bring one down. Seemed PO'ed and headed toward the big water tank. The whole time it was quite distant and Scott and I never got good looks -- these are the best shots I have -- sure looked and acted like a peregrine -quite big 2/3 size of the harriers.

At Ain Al Fayda inside the ladies park
Siberian stonechat
possible songthrush
probable wryneck (scott)
possible female dark throated thrush

Dave -

If this were the Newnited States, the butter yellow feet and the slaty back would be an emphatic yes - plus the remnants of streaking on the breast would indicate a juvie on the way to adulthood. Not knowing UAE falcons at all, though, are there any other sp. with a similar combination of characteristics?

Hi

The Black-throated Thrush was showing well at Ain Al Fayda ladies park this afternoon, feeding at the far end (left) of the grass ie near the road. Wryneck was there as well on the opposite side, but where are the geese?

Hey Huw -- Scott will be pleased that the wryneck was there he wasn't sure of his ID. The geese were in the area with the masked shrike earlier in the day.
