?Mantis from Falaj Al Mualla, RAK-Jul 29, 2011

Hey All,

Came across this cute ?mantis or stick insect? deep in the RAK deserts. I initially found it by chance while tying my shoelaces on a clump of dry desert grass, virtually indiscernable! Need help with ID pls..............

for me, it looks more like a grass Hooper than mantis..

Thanks, Ahmed. Yes, you are right! This is most likely a wingless grasshopper as I was checking some more pics and also remember its brief hopping habit. It looks like 'Acrida bicolor ' that is found in the region.... Hopeful to get an id soon as am real curious.

It would be fun to have you on any of my trips. Considering I'm going on holiday for Ramadan, we can chalk something up in September and after, Insha'Allah :)

Whatsthatbug.com got back to me stating this bug is most likely a juvenile "Acrida bicolor" or long-headed grasshopper :)
