I spotted part of a flock of 28 or 29 Northen lapwing in the ploughed and cleanly levelled lawn grass field in the main pivot of the Pivot Field at 1.58pm. By the time I counted and took few shots they were airborn by 2.06pm.
From the overhead but longdistance shot I could count 28 birds. Possibly 1 was not in the frame or they were just 28.119621196311964

Yeah, I saw them around midday flying through the pivots. I thought I was hallucinating at first.

Nice to see this count for this beautiful bird.
nice photos too. few places to see the northern lapwing in UAE

It migrates mainly by day, often in large flocks

Just landed from 'a flight from hell', the two words Mach 0.72 and Boeing 777-300ER should NEVER be in the same sentence! Not helping is 'there is a funny smell from one of the IFE units' and 'a passenger was found unconscious in his seat; we'll see if we can revive him'. This makes for an unhappy Cappy.
It's now either very early or very late. Not too early (or late) for a cold Heineken though ;)

So, does Simon & Reza get the honour of sharing the highest count ever in the UAE of this great bird!
I think yes.

Steve & Simon (A) gets second place, Dave Diskin gets third, and who would have thought Wamm Farms would have 6 & 7 birds (Dave Diskin both)??
