Evan's Bluetail Damselfly in Al Warsun 30th april 2011

Today in Al Warsun I found several males and lone female visiting over a dozen Corinader plant growing by someone in the lake area.

Evan's Bluetail (Blue-banded Damsel), Ischnura evansi
As both males and female were on the same or nearby plants both are likely to belong to this species

The male is definitely Ischnura senegalensis. It has pointed terminal appendages and the black band on the second abdominal segment goes all the way around with just the blue spot. Can also see the blue flash on the pterostigma in the full resolution image. Female is also likely an immature I. senegalensis, but females are trickier with all the morphs. The pronotum behind the head where the males grasp the females looks right for I. senegalensis.

There's a guide for distinguishing males of the three species of Ischnura known from UAE in Tribulus V18.

    Hi Reza

    It's Ischnura senegalensis.

Sadly Bob Reimer died soon after the above post.

I am so sorry to know Bob's news.
Thanks for the info and identifying the species.
In some of your e-mails, not sure which one, I have dispatched one antlion and one dragonfly picture for identification. I am posting both here.
    Best wishes
