Default largish broad-winged bat in Old Sarooj

    Hey there,
We've been getting a rather large, broad-winged bat swooping down to our pool to scoop water most evenings. Its wingspan is easily about a foot (30 cm) and quite broad, almost like an owl. I'm hoping to get some shots of it one of these nights, but any ideas of what it might be based on size and wing shape?
    Thanks,
    Greg

On time at a couple of years back at Wamm farms a "flock" of large bats emerged at dusk from the plantation next to the goat farm.
I believe they were some kind of fruit bats.
Also with them were small pipistrelle like bats.

The only large bat we get in the UAE is the Egyptian Fruit bat.

actually pretty common in Al Ain -- you can see them at night at Green Mub or even better from the deck of the Horse and Jockey Pub. Dont know where they roost

There used to be large numbers in RAK - roosted on the Airport, then flew off towards the date/veg farms at Dusk. But I have not been there recently.
