    Default Sub-adult Heuglin's Gull

    this sub-adult gull photographed in two positions. hmmm need the main feathers how to judge on this bird.(White tips # of primaries colors)

    Hi Khalifa

    I think this is more likely to be Heuglin's Gull. The darkness of the upperside, rather strong head streaking (so late in the winter for Steppe), dullness of the bare parts (although this bird is not a full adult) and, by far most importantly of all, the 2 regrowing outer primaries all point straight to that and away from Steppe. I think Steppe at this stage of moult in late January would be exceptional.
