I set off with the purpose of visiting a Peter Hellyer spot called Balghelam Jetty, which is just off Yas Island on the way to Dubai. But I lost the plot, and stopped at Al Bahia Beach instead.

The red x marks the spot I intended to go to; I've circled the spot where I actually looked at some birds. I'll try to hit Balgelam Jetty in the next couple of days, but in the mean time. Here's what I saw.

Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) 2

Western Reef-Heron (Egretta gularis) 2

Black-bellied Plover (Pluvialis squatarola) 3

Pacific Golden-Plover (Pluvialis fulva) 2

Greater Sand-Plover (Charadrius leschenaultii) 3

Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) 4

Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) 1

Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) 2

Terek Sandpiper (Xenus cinereus) 2

Marsh Sandpiper (Tringa stagnatilis) 2

Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) (Columba livia (Feral Pigeon)) 25

Laughing Dove (Streptopelia senegalensis) 15

Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis) 25

House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) 50

It's not a bad spot and should probably be a stop for anyone on the way to Balghelam Jetty, if the tide is right.

Anyone who has actually been to Balghelam, I would appreciate any tips on birding strategies given what looks to be some private property.
