    Tawny or Long-billed Pipit?

I'm quite excited about this as I sent this image to Mark who can only view it on his phone at the moment. He thinks it looks good for LBP so I'm looking for a back-up from anyone who can view a larger version on their laptop/desktop.

The image isn't stunning because I flushed the bird out of the scrub and it landed some distance away and the crop is 200%+

Reason I'm excited is because of the location. The subject is sitting on the Northern fence-line between Silicon Oasis and 2nd Phase International City. Time of day around 1400hrs.

I recall having a LBP in February 2016 which at the time was heralded as unusual and the first ever sighting of this species at Warsan.

Also in the same spot 1 Desert and 1 Izzy Wheatear.

    Thanks
    H

    ps
Note proximity of the two sitings almost exactly 2 years apart

    Hi Howard
    I've been reading this:
    https://britishbirds.co.uk/wp-conten...6_015_A003.pdf

Looking at the main points here for LBP:
    - Plain head, not very distinct malar stripe: Yes
    - Lack of contrast between upper/lower: Yes
    - Long full tail, appears dark underneath: Yes
    - Pot-bellied appearance: Unfortunately can't see it in this photo, so No

On balance, seems OK for LBP, but I have to admit I've never actually seen one myself and I have limited experience in the UAE and with Tawnys... So I would be very interested with what Mark or others have to say. In any case thanks for posting, I've learnt something today!

Hi Tim and thanks for your input.

Here's the one and only shot of my previous LBP at Warsan in Feb.'16

FWIW I also think your bird is a Long-billed. Apart from the points already mentioned, it has a curved culmen, rather grey mantle, very little breast streaking, less solid-looking centres to the median coverts, gingery coloration on the flanks and flight feathers and appears to have buff outer-tail feathers.

Thank you Andrew for your input. Failing any contradictory comments I will chalk this one up as LBP.

    Hi Howard
this broadly looks ok to me for Long-billed, so think your ID is safe enough.
