    Unidentified BoP

    in Identification problems

Expecting Kestrels two larger looking birds arrived and circled the area outside my abode near Creek Park for a minute before moving on. Much broader winged than Kestrels - appreciate any feedback.

You know it already. What you think it is, is actually what it is ;-)

They are most likely breeding in the Dubai Creek Park

Hi Tommy. Trying to understand why you would suggest the birds might be breeding in the park from the evidence in my images.

Thanks Tommy - assuming you are indicating Kestrel. Thought it might have been a buzzard of some kind. Just the slow circular gliding that brought back memories of the Common Buzzards I used to see over the golf courses in the UK - I also had the impression that it was larger than a kestrel. On the subject of breeding. Since we arrived in our new apartment a week ago I noted that on a number of occasions in the early morning 'the family' congregated on a roof in the same area and often the larger of the birds looked towards a wall which I couldn't see. Do Kestrel nest in crevices on roofs?

I think you're missing Tommy's cryptic hint to your previous ID request, Bob... ;-)

Thanks Mark. I'll try to keep my mind open to possible cryptic comments in the future - admit to being a bit flummoxed. I hope to get there eventually - now know many, many more bird identities than I did a year ago but it has been a struggle, especially during season changes.

I'm sorry if I'm not helping, Bob. It was done in the best of spirit :-) I'll be more to the point on the next ID query, I promise. The Shikra is closest to the Sparrowhawks you used to see in the UK, and like miniature Buzzards they do soar and glide on thermals

Hi Tommy. Please do not change your style, appreciate your humour and all the help you give. Great to hear I have a Shikra in my collection. We often get Sparrowhawks in our garden at home.
