As a newbie to birding the thing that fascinates me most is the way birds behave. Sat in hides for hours gives the opportunity to observe how birds do things like, preen, stretch, court, prepare their food, etc. This image shows a Green Bee Eater tossing a bee that it had been tapping against the rail it was perched on - presumably to kill it before swallowing. I regularly have two of these birds visit the same place, which is just outside my office window. This is the first time I have noticed a 'toss' of its prey. Does it do this to adjust its hold on it,

or for another reason?
