Hi Howard, lovely image. Nice to get it close to home. I've not seen our Sparrow Hawk for some time but occasionally notice feathers of wood pigeons around. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Just trying to learn and not doubting your identification skills but my book describes the 10th Primary as longer than others on the Lesser but shorter than the 8th and same length as the 7th on the Common. This bird landed on our windowsill for a couple of seconds and was definitely smaller than the others I'd seen last year. Could it have been a juvenile and is so are they noticeably smaller? It was also beating its wings very fast and again noticeably faster than what we were used to the year before. I returned from 4 weeks in Antartica 5 weeks ago (birds were fantastic) and have been in lockdown since as I'm 72. I am due to fly out on 27th May after finishing a 2 year contract so this might be the last post on this site. Thank you for your help and patience in the past.

Thanks Mark. I'll try to keep my mind open to possible cryptic comments in the future - admit to being a bit flummoxed. I hope to get there eventually - now know many, many more bird identities than I did a year ago but it has been a struggle, especially during season changes.

Thanks Tommy - assuming you are indicating Kestrel. Thought it might have been a buzzard of some kind. Just the slow circular gliding that brought back memories of the Common Buzzards I used to see over the golf courses in the UK - I also had the impression that it was larger than a kestrel. On the subject of breeding. Since we arrived in our new apartment a week ago I noted that on a number of occasions in the early morning 'the family' congregated on a roof in the same area and often the larger of the birds looked towards a wall which I couldn't see. Do Kestrel nest in crevices on roofs?

Thank you Mark. I'm afraid the days have gone when I used to rope down tall buildings but it was disappointing to find our windows as dirty as they are otherwise great views over the Creek and Creek Park and looking forward to other birds perching.
