In UAE bird sightings
Unfortunately this wonderful image of a distant carpark was spoilt by a fuzzy bird, which was much closer. Last year we had a family of Common Kestrel around our 30th Floor apartment at the Hyatt Regency Creek Heights. I do hope one of a number of experts here can identify this bird. It's been around for a couple of days with a playmate. It is smaller than the birds from last year and I did notice that it flew with a very different wingbeat (faster). Sorry about the poor image but if it is a Lesser Kestrel it's new to me.

Expecting Kestrels two larger looking birds arrived and circled the area outside my abode near Creek Park for a minute before moving on. Much broader winged than Kestrels - appreciate any feedback.

Within half an hour of moving into our new apartment in Hyatt Regency Creek Heights this bird landed outside our window. Scrambled for a camera and got these two shots. Shikra or Sparrow Hawk I think.

Seen at Dubai Police HQ, 19 May 19. They look like recent fledgelings to my untutored eye.

I think the prey may be a Lacewing but delighted with any correction.

In UAE insects
Just had a large flying insect pass my office window. Body about 4cms long and 3cms wide, with relatively short wings. Anybody any idea what it might be - at least 3 or 4 times larger in weight than a bumble-bee.

Not a sighting of note but a nice image that shows the base of the beak with a bluish tinge - first time I'd noticed it. Very quiet at the hide with no small terns to photograph, which is what I was looking for.

Probably either a 'Little' or 'Saunder's' Tern. Definitely a small one. I would plump for Saunder's because of the darker feet. Lucky to even get this image - so quick and agile.

Not sure if it's a Terek Sandpiper (but much bigger than I'd seen before) or a Common Greenshank with red legs, or something else?

These three are poor shots taken a long way away from my 200 lens. I think the first is a Plover, perhaps Grey, in transition from winter to summer. Second is a biggish white, same size as a Great Western Egret or larger, but doesn't quite look right - bill a little thicker perhaps (poor definition though) and it's 'hunched back' with a black edge to the fore wing ? The third I think is a Swift but looks a little brown to be a Common Swift?

13/4/19 1000 hrs approx, Ras Al Khor Lagoon. Not an unusual sighting of an Osprey but nevertheless advertises RAK (junior) to photographers and birders alike. To me this is almost the perfect pose for this particular image. Yes, the Osprey's head could be slightly lower looking at the fish, and there could have been some interest in the background, and, of course, it could have been much closer, but... if only. There were also 2 Greater Spotted Eagles, which are becoming scarcer this season.

Spectacles and long tail make me think it's not a sparrow, but I've been wrong before, many times.
